Why do we sing?

Here's why the people of Estonia sing

Wikipedia article on the Estonian Song Festival

Official web page of the festival, translated from Estonian into English... You're welcome

The Baltic nations used song and nonviolent protest to gain their freedom. Choral music permeates their culture because of it. Over 25,000 at this festival all singing in harmony with each other, all united in song. Watch the video, check out the wikipedia article, and re-think why YOU sing.

There is power in music. There is power in what we will one day teach our students. The kind of power that changes lives. The kind of power that frees nations from the tyranny of others.

Sooo... the next Estonian song and dance festival takes place in 2014... Road trip anyone?
